Play music when silence detected and stop playing if isn't

In case of silent alarm, the RTV Silence Detection can start a player playing an audio file or playlist. This article explains how this can be set using as example Winamp or VLC for playing an audio file.

Download here Winamp. Alternatively VLC player can also be used.

Tip: run Winamp or VLC after installation. Both players may want to ask for additional installation information at first startup.

It is important that the audio player is not audible through the audio input that is preceded by the silence detection. Then for the silence detection the audio of the player is audible and there is no alarm situation anymore.

If audio of the emergency player is detected, the audio input on which is detected may need to be listened to an audio output. To solve this, go to the recording device and go to tab "Listen". The option "listen to this device" should then be turned off.

Set to start Winamp or VLC at silence alarm

  • go via "Settings" menu to "Silence Actions".

  • Check "execute" and enter the following:
Execute: the absolute location and the executable to Winamp or VLC. For example:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Winamp\winamp.exe
Parameters: the absolute path and audio file to be played. For example:
    D:\Audiofiles\stilte.mp3
This may also be a pls file (if it is Winamp).

Silent alarm starts Winamp and plays the audio file.

Set the player will stop when audio is detected back

When audio is detected back, the player (Winamp or VLCPlayer) can be stopped.

An additional tool has to be downloaded for this: pskill.exe.
This is a tool part of Microsoft's PsTools and can be downloaded here from Microsoft's official site.
Extract from the zip file (PsTools.zip) the file "pskill.exe" and copy it to C:\Windows.
Start pskill for a first time because of license agreement.

In the silence detection set the following:

  • ga via menu "Settings" to "Actions on modulation after sitlte".

  • Check "execute" and enter the following:
    Execute: C:\Windows\pskill
    Parameter: winamp (or vlc)

When audio is detected back, Winamp or VLC shuts down.
